Unique values in one column

Excel is widely used to manage table data in stock-keeping, accounting, programming, statistics and so on. Very often users need to filter for unique values in a list. Removing duplicates in Excel is a closely related task because the result is the same – a list of unique records. The usual search string looks as follows :

unique values excel
unique records in excel
excel filter unique
find unique values in excel
vlookup unique
distinct values in a column
remove duplicates in excel

There is NO trick here and you don’t need to be an Excel Guru to do that:

Filter for unique values

To create a list of unique records in Excel, follow these steps:

1. Select the range of cells that you want to sort.

2. On the Data menu, go to Filter -> Advanced Filter.

3. Under Action, click Copy to another location.

4. Leave the Criteria Range blank.

5. Select a cell for the Copy to location (where the result should be placed)

6. Click to select the Unique records only check box.

7. Click OK.

The unique values from the selected range are copied to the new location

Note: Columns in the selected range must contain headings, otherwise the first row may be duplicated in the results.
